Link Type Icons

External links can be decorated with icons before or after the link depending on the FileExtension, InternetProtocol or InterWiki site. These icons not only make the ProWiki more beautiful, they also help the users to subliminally grasp the type of information that are offered to them.

Examples for icons depending on extensions:

Upload:WikiAkademieInformationFürPartner.pdf
Upload:HelmutLeitner/fastbook2.doc
Upload:HelmutLeitner/WikiWebVergleich.xls
Upload:HelmutLeitner/fastbook2.txt

Examples for icons depending on InterWeb site names:

Notes

The current system of icons uses 16x16 pixel transparent gif's or png's. It is important that the outside parts of the icons are transparent because you can not be sure that the ProWiki is configured to render the page text on a white background. If the icons weren't transparent they wouldn't look good on colored background.

The small size was chosen not to disturb the interline spacing of body text. Without a vertical CSS displacement the icons would be aligned on top of the TextBaseline, which wouldn't look good. Therefore we provide the LinkTypeIconStyle to place a corresponding CSS style command.

Adding an icon to the system: is done by creating the icon and specifying the icon in a LinkTypeIcon option. Of course icons can be shared.
