Virtual Server

A VirtualServer is a part of a WebServer sold by Providers who take care of Linux administration, security and backup. Typically only the amount of available webspace is specified (e. g. 1-5 GB), the number of actual customers sharing the computer is rarely known. Prices start at $10-15 per month.

Typically a VirtualServer is the cheapest and safest way to get the necessary web environment to install a ProWikiServer.

Comparison to other ServerTypes:

  • a RootServer has higher performance and a much better price-performance ratio, but administration of the Linux system is up to you
  • a ManagedServer is similar to a VirtualServer with respect to Linux administration and security, but it is much more expensive.
